UK Government Basics
- The U.K. Is a parliamentary democracy with a constitutional monarch.
- The King or Queen is the head of state and the prime minister is the head of government.
- Note: Parliament is separate from government.
- Government are the people who have been elected to run the country, the political party that wins the most seats at a General Election takes charge of the Government for five years.
- Parliament looks out for the interests of the people and makes sure that Government takes them into account. The Government cannot make new laws or raise new taxes without Parliament's agreement.
